I provide individual psychotherapy integrating psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral techniques. Each client is unique, and I tailor my approach to suit the client's needs. I also specialize in working with creative individuals who work in the entertainment industry. As I studied theatre and worked in television prior to becoming a psychologist, I understand the unique demands of the entertainment industry and the challenges that industry professionals experience. I work with you to overcome the challenges that prevent you from succeeding in your career and experiencing life satisfaction.
Additionally, I provide cognitive enhancement training customized to engage and strengthen an individual's cognitive skill challenges. For example, I regularly train those of all ages who have experienced cognitive loss due to aging, neurodegeneration, head trauma, brain tumor resection, and other medically-related causes. I design individualized lesson plans to address the cognitive skills that have changed (e.g., attention, memory, etc.).
In all my work, I offer a holistic, well-balanced approach, often integrating such practices as meditation and qi gong/tai chi. I work collaboratively with other physicians and practitioners to provide a comprehensive experience that is life-enhancing and stress-reducing.
Psychological and neuropsychological assessments can provide invaluable information about an individual's personality, emotions, and cognition. Neuropsychological assessments are often essential to evaluate IQ, memory, processing speed, language, executive functioning, and attention. These assessments are often done in addition to, and in conjunction with, medical evaluations and neuroimaging to reach an accurate diagnosis and inform treatment plans and progress. I have an extensive background in assessment, particularly in adult and older adult neuropsychological assessment (including assessing for such conditions as Alzheimer's disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment, traumatic brain injury, etc.). I work collaboratively with physicians to provide such diagnostic clarity to advance your care. Please contact me if you are interested in obtaining a psychological or neuropsychological assessment.
Prior to graduate school in psychology, I spent several years working in entertainment in such capacities as television production and post-production, and theatrical business affairs. One of my specialties is working with creative individuals. Thus, I offer consultation on the psychological aspect of character development to ensure that characters and storylines offer accurate and believable portrayals of both psychological health and mental illness.
I am the only psychologist in the Los Angeles area to offer Improv Therapy, which is the use of improvisational theatre techniques combined with group psychotherapy processing. Improv and psychotherapy share many themes and qualities that, when combined, have been shown to reduce depression and anxiety and improve self-esteem (Krueger, in review). This group is taught with professional instructors from The Groundlings and is appropriate for both actors and non-actors with no prior improv or theatre experience required. It is ideal for those experiencing social anxiety, generalized anxiety, low self-confidence or self-esteem, and depression. Groups meet weekly, typically on Thursdays from 7 – 9 PM, for eight weeks, although other times might become available in the future. Say “Yes, and…” give me a call to enroll in a group!
